Ajuwa Olisa Francis Chukwuma — 4th April 2026
Ajuwa Olisa Francis Chukwuma was installed as the 10th Ajuwa of the Ndoni Kingdom on the 4th of April, 2026. Selected by the Umuagbidi people as the sole candidate in accordance with ancestral custom, he was presented to the Awoh, the Paramount Chief and Traditional Ruler of Ndoni, and anointed in the customary ceremony of Ida Nzu.
His installation continues an unbroken tradition spanning over a century, in which the Ajuwa chieftaincy has remained the exclusive preserve of the Umuagbidi clan of Ogbeukwu village. As the Ajuwa, he serves as the custodian of the Olinzele title passed down through the generations from the ancestors of the clan.
The Lineage
The Ajuwa Chieftaincy is not a matter of wealth, prestige, or influence — it is solely a matter of customary rights, custom, and tradition. The Umuagbidi people select a sole candidate for the title, who is then presented to the Awoh for anointment.

The Clan
The Umuagbidi clan is the ancestral home of the Ajuwa chieftaincy, situated within Ogbeukwu village in Ndoni town. For over a century, the Ajuwa title has resided exclusively within this clan — an Olinzele title derived from the ancestors, held without contest from any other quarter.
In Ndoni's traditional governance system, the Awoh (the Paramount Chief and Traditional Ruler) is a custodian of the Olinzele titles, not their owner. Most families and clans in Ndoni derive their chieftaincy titles from their ancestors, and the Ajuwa chieftaincy is one of such. No person outside the Umuagbidi clan has ever held the title.
"Just as there cannot be two Awohs at the same time, there cannot be two Ajuwas at the same time. The Ajuwa Chieftaincy is not a matter of wealth, prestige or influence — it is solely a matter of customary rights, custom and tradition."
The selection process follows ancient custom: the Umuagbidi people select a sole candidate, who is then presented to the Awoh. The Awoh's role is to anoint the candidate in the customary ceremony of Ida Nzu. The incumbent Awoh is guided by the customs and traditions of the people — he does not make them. He abides by them, as that is the fountain from which he derives his authority.
The Kingdom
Ndoni is an ancient town in Rivers State, Nigeria. Right from the coming of the Ndoni people from their ancestral town of Utaffi, Ndoni has been a community steeped and guided by custom and tradition — principles which have sustained good governance, peace, and good order from that time to the present day.
The town is governed by the Awoh, who serves as the Paramount Chief and Traditional Ruler, alongside a council of Olinzele title holders representing the various clans and villages. This system ensures that leadership remains rooted in the customs and traditions of the people.
